fresh install of xp pro

after hdd crash new hdd installed and formatted. using win98 boot disk to
access cd drives. when xp pro install disk is in drive and use ezy access to
boot from cd. pc reverts to C:\> i have win98 can i install and then install
win xp pro on top. i have also downloaded win

The winxp cd is bootable, though you may have to enable boot from cd in the
bios, and contains all the utilities for partitioning/formating.
ie there is no necessity to boot / format from any other cd
