- Get error message after chkdsk scan from "cmd" window
- Posted by porciniman on October 31st, 2005
After running chkdsk, it said it found an error, so I continued to run the
full scan.
After about 30 mins, the scan was complete.
I had hoped it would fix any erors, but when the system rebooted, it gave me
this error mesage:
windows could not start b/c the following files are missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
I've tried 2 different XP discs (SP I) to try to reload the missing file,
but to know avail.
Even after an hour of talking with MS CS, I've got no joy.
Any ideas out there?

Go to Kelly's site at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm, click
on "H" and read the info on hal.dll missing.
