- Hardware installation wizard takes 1 hour for every new piece of hardware...

XP version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclient.010817-1148) Home Edition.
If I plug in (for example) a USB Mass Storage Device (memory card
stick), it sees that there is new hardware, but when I click ok to
install, it takes 1 hour or more to install it. Sometimes I have killed
one of the SVCHOST.EXE and then it takes off like lightning and
installs right away.
Any tips welcomed.
