Thank you first of all for any help.

I am running win xp pro. My internet isp is comcast and I am running 3
computers icluding mine thru a netwrok router. I have to restart each time
after initial boot to make a connection. Why is this? I have heard that it is
a win xp thingy, but this does'nt make sense considering the plug and play
etc etc sensing software running.
Anyone up for this. Thanks again..

Do you have to restart all the computers or just one? It is not normal
and it is not a "win xp thingy". Something is wrong with your
connection. If it is on the one computer, you can:

1. Look in Event Viewer for clues. Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]
2. Swap out the ethernet cable running to the router.
3. Connect to a different port on the router.
4. Swap out the network adapter card (nic) for a known-working one.

Naturally you will try one thing at a time and test after each change
before going onto the next item.

If the problem exists on all 3 computers, perhaps your router needs to
be replaced.

Is the router already on when you start the computer?

I also am on Comcast (Seattle area). I actually have 2 routers
in "series" (one has a print server in it and the Linksys has
my wireless links). No problem with reboots on any of
the computers as long as the router is on when the computer
boots. Some of the computers use fixed IP's while others
are using DHCP. No problem either way. All running XP Pro

you have some other issue besides "being an xp thingie". I
have had the router get "unlocked" or whatever where
release/renew will not connect again (from the router page)
and it takes a power cycle on the router to get it back, but
that is maybe once a year.

What router are you using?
Do you have an IP address at the time this doesn't work?
Can you ping the router's LAN IP?
Can you ping something on the internet, like a public DNS server IP? (try
4.2.2.1)
