Help! Cmd.com window hangs!!
Posted by lonely brain cell on February 10th, 2006

Hi

Having problems with running cmd.com the window opens but is unuseable
accepting no input from the keyboard. After a long wait an error message
appears "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction .... Close
to terminate" etc.
Interestingly if I run a command that opens the window itself and then
executes such as ipconfig it appears to run ok, but of course it all
happens in a flash and the window closes again.
I am running XP Home SP2 on a Compaq Presario 2138EA with 768MB RAM.

Please help!

Thanks

There is no CMD.com in XP. I would suggest removeing the malware from
the PC.

Try running CMD /K IPCONFIG /ALL

It should keep the Window open for you.

Yes of course! Cmd.exe is the file that should run. I was just typing
cmd and it was cmd.com that was trying to run. It appears to have been
created by a old game .... anyway got rid of it now .....

Thanks for all the tips guys .. I should have spotted this one!
