Help Unlocking a Password Protected"My Documents" Folder in Window
Posted by Mitch in Denver on December 21st, 2005

My desktop was trashed by a lightning strike. I removed the hard drive and
instealled in a new desktop, ran virus scans, and the drive is fully
accesible and readable. When I try to access the "My Documents" folder so
taht I can transfer my files to my new PC, it won't let me in. I assume that
is because my account was password protected on my old system. I know the
password, but do not know how to unlock the My Documents folder on the old
drive that is installed now in the new PC. I am hoping that someone will have
an answer for that since many of the files are business related and critical.
I'll be glad to pay!!

Thanks,
Mitch

As long as the files were not encrypted (and you would know if you did
this), you can just take ownership of the files.

Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -
