Hibernation Woes

After hibernating and then restarting this WinXP system, I get this
message:

"The last attempt to restart the system from its previous location
failed. Attempt to restart again?" Then I get two options: "Delete
restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" or "Continue with
system restart."

Also, after hibernating, I notice that the system seems to run really
slowly.

Also, after hibernating or shutdown, when the system comes back up, it
fails to recognize the ATA secondary master and slave drives. I then
restart and it recognizes them.

Any ideas what is happening here?

Disable hibernation for a while and just carry on with normal
Shutdown/Restart options.Do you find any difference?
