how to improve ftp performance
Posted by Andrew on March 28th, 2006

Hi,

I did a lot of testing to compare the ftp performance using WindowsXP ftp
client with:
1. WindowsXP ftp server
2. FileZilla ftp server
3. Linux 2.4 Wuftp server
through our special network, which will cause latency.

The results show that the WindowsXP ftp server has the worst performance
(GET: 14.5 Mbps; PUT: 82 Mbps). If using the Linux server instead, the
results are (GET: 74 Mbps; PUT: 80 Mbps). I find the WindowsXP has the
default value of "TcpWindowSize" set to 8760, which is very small. I tried to
increase the "TcpWindowSize" to 65525, wich is the highest in WindowsXP in
both client and server sides, but found no improvement.

If I want to improve the ftp performance, can anyone give me some
instructions as how to do it.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew
