How to make mouse scroll wheel work in .hlp files?
Posted by V S Rawat on September 28th, 2005

I have received .hlp help file with a software. On opening it, the
Help-Version reads, Microsoft Windows Help 4.10.1998, Version.

The problem is that mouse scroll wheel does not work in it in win98se.
I am not aware whether it works or not in other os.

How to make mouse scroll wheel work in .hlp help files for scrolling up
and down?
--------

I have seen help file in some other software in .chm format. Scroll
wheel duly works in these files. On opening, no menu is appearing in
the help. some icons are there. On right click on the upper bar, it
shows option "About HTML help", click which brings the about window
that reads:
HTML Help Control Version 5.2.3664.0

What are the two formats?

----------------
Please suggest some software that will convert a .hlp file to .chm file
so that scroll wheel starts working in it?

Thanks and Regards.

hlp files are old and predate scroll wheels. Some mouse software simulates down arrow presses for old apps like WinHelp.

Thanks.

Is there any software (preferably free) that can convert a .hlp file to
..chm file that would work on win98se with scroll?

hello, this is Windows XP group, not Windows 98, so your fixes wouldn't
work properly.

You are right. My mistake.

I have subbed to win98.gen_discussion and win98.setup also, hence I
forgot the group.

btw, there is hardly any traffic in those group for last three days.
Could someone please suggest some win98 group?

There is but it's not a seamless process. Why not just use your mouse software.

I bought this mouse at a local shop. There was no floppy/ CD with it.
Thus, I don't have any software of it.

It reads Intex Scroll Mouse IT-MS07 20040619S427.

See if you can find another mouse software package. Most mice pretend to be an MS Mouse. Perhaps the previous mouse you owned. DON'T INSTALL DRIVERS just the software.
