Some time ago I used a trial version of some "browser hijack recovery"
program which would not fix problems without purchase of the full version,
but displayed registry keys which were affected. I manually deleted several
values and/or keys. Now, there are no autoplay actions available for "Music"
or "Picture" types of content . "Video" and "Mixed Content" types still
appear to work normally.

When I insert removable media with MP3 files or digital photos, the autoplay
handler appears with an empty list of actions. This problem exist for all
removable devices.

I have tried using the Autoplay Repair Wizard (autofix.exe) to no effect.
The wizard finds a problem, but cannot repair it.

TweakUI reveals 27 autoplay handlers installed, some of which should handle
music and/or picture files (according to the selected settings); and I have
tried de-selecting and re-selecting the various options to no avail.

Can anyone suggest ways to restore these autoplay actions?

Autorun won't work unless a feature called Auto Insert Notification and/or
AutoPlay is turned on.

Auto Insert Notification works by periodically polling a CD ROM drive for
the purpose of reading the title and table of contents on the disc.
Unfortunately, Autorun can interfere with the CD burning process, which is
why many CD burning applications (such as Easy CD Creator) disable the
feature altogether.

AutoPlay is another aspect of AutoRun, which can be used to "fine tune" how
different types of CDs launch when inserted into the drive. I do not believe
the AutoPlay feature is available in Windows 95 or 98.

Another very easy way to enable AutoRun is to use a utility called TweakUI
(Powertoys) from Microsoft.

Side note: When I used PowerToys on my Windows XP system, I found the
Autorun feature located under My Computer -> Drives -> AutoPlay.
