- I need to add a background to my desktop icons.
- Posted by CandiApple on December 11th, 2005
WindowsXP
I downloaded a picture on my desktop that has a white background. The text
to my desktop icons is in white. I want to add a "backdrop" so that you can
see the text of the desktop icons.
I right-clicked on the desktop and went to "Properties" "Appearance"
"Advanced" and know that it is one of the drop-down options. I do not want
to play with all of these options for fear of making it worse.
Which one am I to choose?
Thanks in advance!

That's not what Glen said. Read his post more carefully. The setting you
are looking for is "use drop shadows for icon labels" and the place you
should be looking is here:
Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance Settings>VisualEffects -
UNcheck "use drop shadows for icon labels".

You really should spend some time getting to know your computer. Don't
be afraid to look at the options in Control Panel applets. Go to the
Display applet and open it. Click on appearance and then Advanced. You
can change the background color of your desktop to black there.
