- Posted by Jeff on May 22nd, 2006
Hi,
Asked this in xp basics;but haven't had help-so here goes; When I open
the control panel;all the icons render correctly except the Portable Media
one;it gets stuck trying to convert into the icon. How do I fix this?

Hi,
Probably because the file that houses the icon is either corrupt or missing.
If your media player came with software, try reinstalling it. If there is a
downloadable update from the manufacturer, you might try it.

Might want to try rebuilding the Icon Cache. You can either use
TweakUI (Repair category) or simply do a full system search for
Iconcache.Db - There will be an instance of this module for each
user profile on the machine. Just delete the one residing in your
profile and XP will recreate a new one.
