IE problems - all browser windows close for no reason and no warni
Posted by Gavin on July 7th, 2008

On my IBM/Lenovo laptop, I (stupidly) downloaded some malicious software from
Limewire (now removed) , I'm having continuing problems with IE7 in that when
I log into various sites with chatrroms, IE closes without warning - even
with multiple tabs open.

I installed and ran "Spybot Search & Destroy" and it found various problems
and fixed them.
I have a PC also running IE7 and trying to understand I compared registry
settings and one difference I've noticed now is in the HKEY_USERS section....

In my PC -
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-809525202-2278278253-2770387004-1006\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\Feature
Control\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\Settings\LOC ALMACHINE_CD_UNLOCK - the
value is set to ""0x00000000 (0)

In my Laptop
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-809525202-2278278253-2770387004-1005\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\Feature
Control\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\Settings\iex plore.exe - the value is
set to ""0x00000001 (1)

Laptop is running IE7 (Version 7.0.5730.11)
PC is running IE7 (Version 7.0.5730.11IS)

Can anyone help ?

Should I change the registry on my laptop?

Many thanks
Gavin

Just running Spybot S&D isn't enough. Be more thorough in your malware
removal.

After you know the machine is really clean, you can address any problems
with IE that may (or may not) remain.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:

change, too - but you're not an MS MVP. Nor should anyone download files
