- Indexing service: how to share a catalog from a Win2K3 server
- Posted by Nick D. on December 4th, 2005
Hello all,
I want to set up a single, central indexing service catalog of all docs on a
network share, and then configure XP workstations to use it, instead of a
local catalog. The goal is to avoid having every workstation build and
maintain its own index of a shared file store.
I've created a catalog on my Win 2K3 server, and I've found a desktop
product called AimAtFile (http://www.aimingtech.com/aimatfile/) that
integrates with indexing service and lets me specify that I want to use the
catalog from the server; it works beautifully, and I get lightning fast
searches. However, I want to do this using the search client built into
Windows XP, and I can't find any documentation that tells me if this is
possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I know how to create catalogs; no difficulties there. I want to know
how to access a catalog across the network.
