Installing Application - Non Admin user can't see folder as defaul
Posted by BLAWP2000 on March 16th, 2006

I installed a new application logged in as administrator. When I logged back
in as the user, they were not allowed to run the program. The desktop
shortcut was there, but not recognized.

I went and allowed this user to have rights to the Application's folder,
then it worked.

How do I set up this user and/or permissions, so new applications will work
for this user.

Hi,

It's not something you can set in advance, unfortunately. The installation
code has to be written properly, and unfortunately much of it is not -
particularly in older software. The solution, as you have already
discovered, is to change the program installation folder permissions after
the setup is complete. More on this here: http://rickrogers.org/xpsware.htm

Thank you. The information helps me understand the issue better. It also
gave me a few tools to work with that I wasn't aware of before.
