- Installing new programs under XP
- Posted by Carlu on October 26th, 2005
When installing new programs (such as MS Project, or others such as
Utimaco-products) under XP the installation hangs/stops. With some
applications if I wait long enough the installation continues after a couple
of hours, with others the installation times out.
I think I have this problem since I installed SP2, but I'm not sure.
For your information: Checkpoint securemote is installed on my PC. And
sometimes I get another problem: https-sites are not working. A reboot solves
this problem.
Thanks a lot for helping!!!

Have you visited the programs' developers' sites for updates that fix
problems with XP SP2?

No I didn't as I have the problem with all possible installs I want to do.
That's why I started looking around on the MS-site as the latest problems I
had were with MS Project and before MS Office...
Thanks!

Hi Carla,
Go to Start --> Run, type: "eventvwr.msc" (without quotes) and then click
OK. This will take you to "Event Viewer". The system logs an event every time
a problem occurs whether it be a network error, installation error or some
other problem.
To find the specific event for your installation problem, go to the
"Application" and "System" submenus in Event Viewer. You're looking for
events with either a Red X or a yellow warning triangle on them. Double click
those and you should get a link to Microsoft where articles describing the
problem and steps you can take to resolve it can be taken. In some cases,
there may be a hotfix available which will resolve the issue for you.
