- ISO burning
- Posted by pmccrackan on May 22nd, 2006
Does anyone know of a decent free program that will let me burn iso's to cd /
dvd. There does not seem to be anything around at a decent price. Nero for
example is far too expensive.
I dont care about music, photo's and movies. All I want to do is burn an
occasional iso, such as a new Linux distro etc.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Regards Peter.

I've been using MagicISO (I have an old eval version that works for smallish
files), but you might see

Thanks for all the help, I have ended up using burn4free, after having tried
several other free and demo programs, it seemed to be the only one that
worked as I wanted it to. My first try was with ISO recorder, whilst it
worked with a cd, for some reason it did not like my dvd media and called it
unusable, I had Sony dvd re-recordable dvd -rw disks, interestingly though,
it would erase the disk, and then call it blank un-usable media. Is there a
standard format I should use?
Hopefully Windows Vista will have some kind of built in iso burner, but then
I guess there will be an outcry from the "anti ms" people, saying Microsoft
should not include such things with the OS or something like that! So then,
not only do we have to pay a fortune for the OS, but then we have to go and
either pay extra money for a 3rd party program, or we have to spend ages
hunting around for a free one, that might do what we want.
Ooops, sorry about the rant! But hey I feel better!
Thanks again for the help, also for this great resource, I could spend days
in here.
Cheers, from Peter.

Burn4free works, but has some relitavely minor spyware attached to it.
You can remove the spyware with a standard antispyware program, without
crippling BFF it.

Add that capability directly to the native burning engine:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general:
Well then use a real operating system (ie. GNU/Linux) and just dump Windoze.
Most Linux distros come with all the tools one needs to burn ISOs.

isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm is referenced in a Microsoft.com

PE_TRATS is identified by Trend Micro and Symantec/Norton as an especially

Hello:
See the MS article Windows XP CD Burning Secrets at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ptember16.mspx .
Near the bottom, it states:
"Do you need to create ISO image files? As the name suggest, these files are
perfect copies of a CD, which you can store on hard disk and use to make
additional copies of a CD later. Windows XP can't create or copy ISO images,
although the unauthorized ISO Recorder Power Toy can add this capability to
Windows XP."
The MS unsupported, but suggested, ISO Recorder can be downloaded at:
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm .
To burn an ISO image file to a CD, simply right-click on the .iso file in
Windows Explorer, and you will see a new action added to the possible list
of actions, that is highlighted and says "Copy Image TO CD." Just click on
that and the CD Recording Wizard will start, but now will let you burn the
..iso file properly.

I'm with O.J. I have used that application to make a perfect bootable copy
of XP for my own use.
