Long list of IE Sites added to restricted sites in IE on XP automatically
Posted by Tom A. on January 14th, 2006

Keep seeing this happen on my two xp pro home pc's

Long list of sites added to reg at..........

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

Like......

008.com
010402.com

and tons others....

Any thoughts?

Running latest definitions of NAV 05

I've also been trying to nail down if spyware is causing it.

Oh, and nothing unusual in startup msconfig

Any help greatly appreciated!

Is SpywareBlaster installed?

If so, that is one of the ways that SpywareBlaster works. It adds sites to
the restricted sites zone.

From SpywareBlaster HELP...
[[SpywareBlaster's Restricted Sites protection provides one main option:
Restrict the actions of ad / tracking / potentially unwanted sites in
Internet Explorer

Adds sites to the Restricted Sites zone, to restrict the actions of the
sites in Internet Explorer.

Sites on this Block List may:
• Attempt to download/install spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers,
or other potentially unwanted ActiveX/software.
• Attempt to use cookies (or other methods) to uniquely identify and/or
track a user.
• Attempt to exploit browser vulnerabilities for potentially malicious /
unwanted purposes.
• Attempt to use browser functions to force advertisements on the user (that
may also try to force the download/installation of unwanted software).
• Attempt to lead / convince the user into taking an action (such as
downloading software or providing personal information) that may be
potentially unwanted, by providing misleading information, a lack of
information, etc. ]]

There are spyware programs other than SpyWareBlaster that also install a
table.
