"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" error message
Posted by Hanaroad on December 30th, 2005

My 70 year old mother has computer problems from time to time and I'm here
IT guy which is like the half blind leading the blind most of the time.
Recently she's been getting a frequesnt error message:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library... Runtime Error!... Abnormal program
termination"

The specific file in the error merssage is: "Program C:\Program
Files\MSN\MSNIA\CC\MSNCC\WA\MSNAccel.exe"

Can anyone help? Thanks so much and Happy New Year...

OK, I've Googled around and it sounds like your mother has a dialup
Internet connection from MSN as her ISP. If this is the case, then look
in the MSN software to see if you can turn off the web "accelerator"
which is what MSNAccel.exe is. A lot of dialup ISP's like AOL and
apparently MSN offer "accelerator" software to give the illusion that
the dialup connection is faster than it really is. What is really
happening is that images, etc. are compressed so they are smaller.

If you still have problems or can't find a way to turn off the
accelerator, contact MSN tech support.

Contact MSN Support - http://support.msn.com/contactus.aspx

Make sure your mother's computer is virus/malware-free:

You're a good son. :-)

Hi Hanaroad, I'm sorry to hear you are having issues. I work with MSN and
I'm
hoping we can get some more information from you to help diagnose the
problem. Would you be willing to provide the following information?

Version of MSN installed
Operating System (Windows XP Home, Windows 98, etc)
Are you running a firewall? which one?

You can send email to this address msniateam@hotmail.com with the information.

Thanks for your time.
