I'm running XP SP2 on an Athlon XP motherboard. From time to time
(roughly every 1-2 days) the keyboard and mouse suddenly stop
responding, requiring a machine reboot to rectify the situation. It
seems to happen with random timing (e.g. sometimes overnight when the
machine is not being used).
The keyboard and mouse are connected via a 4-port KVM switch, and
continue to work fine on the other PC's when this one has a problem. I
can also control the PC using Symantec PC anywhere from another
machine after the keyboard and mouse stop functioning.
The mouse is a Logitech MX1000 cordless optical, and the keyboard a
PS2 multimedia keyboard. Both have been in use for a while without
problems.
I haven't installed any new hardware recently, and have tried
un-installing any new software that' s been installed over the last
few weeks, but haven't been able to identify the cause of the problem.
My Event Log shows alot of "Application Hang" errors from the last few
weeks, but I don't know if these represent symptoms, rather than
causes of the problem:
- Hanging application ATIMMC.exe, version 7.1.0.11, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
- Hanging application dopus.exe, version 2.0.604.0, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
- Hanging application wmplayer.exe, version 9.0.0.3250, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
- Hanging application IEXPLORE.EXE, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
- Hanging application hpofxm07.exe, version 1.0.0.0, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Since my keyboard and mouse hardware don't appear to be at fault,
could anyone suggest any ways of diagnosing the problem??
TIA for any help.
