Multiboot Question
Posted by Jim Davis on March 26th, 2006

Is there any way to uninstall/remove/delete/get rid of an OS from a
multiboot setup? e.g. You have a choice at startup to boot Win 2000 or Win
XP? Is there any way to get rid of Win 2000 and return your system to Win XP
only?

If so, how?

TIA.

On a different drive. Specifically, Win XP on C: drive, Win 2k on another
drive partitioned as D:.

Hi,

Boot to WinXP, click start/run, type 'control sysdm.cpl' and click ok. On
the advanced tab, click startup and recovery settings. Click the 'edit'
button under the startup options to open boot.ini in edit mode. Remove the
line from [operating systems] that loads Win2000. Click file/save and close.

If you haven't already, you can delete the Win2000 system folders from
whatever drive they are residing one.

Edit the boot.ini file to remove the entry for win2k. Temporarily disable
the D: drive. Run it for a few days to make sure XP isn't using that drive.
Once you're sure re-enable the drive and re-partition and format it.

To Kerry Brown and Rick "Nutcase" Rogers --

My sincerest thanks to you both. I followed your advice and everything
worked perfectly. Several of my "knowledgeable" friends said this could not
be done. Well, they were wrong.

Thanks again to you both. Take care.

Jim Davis.
