I got chased over here from the networking forum because they thought
the problem was an XP issue....not sure of the difference.
I have XPHomeSP2 on three computers networked through a router. I use
ICS for a dial up internet connection. On two of the three computers,
I can "see" all the network devices. On the third computer, one of the
other two refuses to show up. I have checked fire wall, IP/domain
settings, and registry settings and all three are the same.
Using the network search function to find a computer by its name, I
can find it. I created a desktop icon and can quickly see this third
computer. Why can't I get it to show up in the Windows Explorer views?
If I display the network tree, it is also missing as is the other
computer that shows up in the windows explorer subdirectory view.
Strange and annoying. How do I get this problem fixed...it makes
moving and accessing files clumbsy by having to work through a second
intermediate computer all the time.
Oh, there is also an ICS issue: This same third computer also fails to
show the ICS connection, but it is there and I can access the
internet...it is just that in the My Network Places, this ICS
connection does not show up....except rarely and the tray icon pops
into existence for a while and then disappears along with the entry.
Sounds like Windows has a problem.
Thanks for any help.
