network problem

I have a Belkin PriN router linking internet a PC and laptop. All went well
until we were away for 10 days. On returning it all started to go wrong.
Initially neither could see each other than using a cable direct to the
router. Then printers and access between the two went altogether. I have
managed the laptop to access the printers now (via View Workgroup Computers)
and see the PC but any attempt to open a folder gets an error
"nor accessible. You may not have permission.,,," and "Not enough server
storage to process the command".

The PC can't open View Workgroup Computers but in My Computer and Network
Places gets the same error message but with out the bit on "Now enough etc"
Which is the same error you get if one or other isn't on!

Internet access has always, and still is, OK

ZoneAlarm has been disabled on both and made no difference.

I have run create the new network a number of times and ensured both have
the same Workgroup name.

Any ideas on what the problem is would be gratefully received.

First I would check for malware/spyware/trojan/virus.

Did you share the resources/drives/folders.
I have seen shares seemingly disappear, and on further review, have found
that sharing was turned off on the folder/drive in question.
I haven't seen the 'not enough server storage' error, but on a peer to peer
network, that shouldn't be appearing.
Did you set this network up as a Domain instead of a workgroup?

Please say which router it is specificly. Can you access the computer
individualy using IP address? (non-WINS servered windows networks name
resolution offten fails for no apparent reason)

The "not enough server storage" message usually occurs because an
antivirus program has changed an obscure TCP/IP setting. Please see
this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a likely solution,
specifying a value of 15 for IRPStackSize on the computer that can't
be accessed:

Thanks, that has sorted the problem to the PC from the laptop. But the PC
still can't access the laptop. Its as if the laptop is off line. At one
stage I could access laptop folders, but the workgroup names were different!
I rember I made them the same and then lost that link.

Make sure that a firewall on the laptop isn't blocking access from the
PC:

1. Disable the Windows XP firewall.

2. Un-install ZoneAlarm -- don't just disable it. Then, go to Start |
Run | Msconfig | Startup and disable any remnants of ZoneAlarm. Don't
re-install ZoneAlarm until everything else is working. It's safe,
because your router acts as an incoming-only firewall, protecting the
laptop from access by hackers on the Internet.

Browsing through My Network Places is notoriously unreliable. Try
accessing the laptop directly from the PC by typing the laptop's
computer name in the Start | Run box on the PC in this format:

\\laptop

Well the problem was ZoneAlarm on both laptop and PC. When I removed it
cleanly from both all was well. Many thanks for help, it does appear to have
been two problems the registry error caused by? and ZA causing problems.

Good! You weren't running ZoneAlarm and the Windows Firewall at the
same time, were you? That's known to cause problems. Choose one
firewall or the other.

It should be possible to re-install ZA, configure it to permit access
by other computers on the LAN (make it a trusted zone), and have
everything work.
