no sound card
Posted by ae on September 26th, 2005

when i installed windows xp on my pc (which was previously running windows
millenium), i lost all pre-existing docs and software which isn't a problem
as i knew this would happen and had copies of all . However, i also now have
no sound at all and the media player gives me an error to the effect that "no
sound card installed". There is ofcourse a sound card but i presume the
driver for it must be re-installed now. My problem is that i don't know which
exact sound card i have and the driver disc which came with the pc has about
50 drivers on it. Do i just install them all?

Use a free system inventory program like Everest Home to determine
exactly what hardware is in your computer. Do not use the drivers on
the cd that came with the computer because those will be for the ME
operating system and you need drivers for XP. Get drivers from:

1. The card mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if onboard video; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.
