Normal vs Selective Startup
Posted by Donald Jacobs on September 24th, 2005

Some time ago I changed the msconfig selective start up items at the
direction of a support desk. I left the selective start set in the
msconfig window.

Recently I changed it back to normal start up. Now when the computer
starts I get a message saying it cannot find ZSSCHEDULER.DLL and then
when I do the OK it continues on it's way. I've tried to find the dll
on the computer and on the internet to no avail. I think, but I'm not
sure the dll had to do with a ZERO spyware program I used to have
installed. I removed it using the add/remove function. It is possible
the dll remains.

Is there anyway I can determine which of the start up programs is
requesting this dll and if it is the Zero program remove whatever
lingers in the system.

Thanks for any help.

You may have uninstalled the program but it looks as if it left
a registry entry behind.

Run msconfig and click on the Startup tab.
Look for an entry in the Command column that references that
file.
Make a note of the registry key listed next to it in the
Location column.
Note: To see all the info in those columns, double click on the
bar between them.
Now go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
Navigate to the key you noted earlier and find the entry for
that file. It will probably be in one of the following
locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

Right click on the entry and select Delete from the drop down
menu.

Thanks Nepatsfan. I'll try that.

Nepatsfan: I followed your instructions and found the items was
HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentver\run. When I did the regedit
and went to the location the entry was not there. Any other
suggestions. Thanks

Nepatsfan; Please disregard my earlier post that it was not there. I
apparently was in the hardware and not the software section. After I
posted the earlier item and then shut down for awhile I repeated your
suggested process. Found it the second time and deleted it. Every thing
working fine now. Thanks again, Don

Don,

What's listed in the
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key?

You might want to try the following:
Go to this web site:
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Download the "Standalone EXE version" of Startup Control Panel.
Once you extract the file from the zip file, run the program.
Click on the HKCU/Run tab.
Is it listed there?
If so, right click the entry and select Delete from the menu.

If that doesn't work, you can try the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter msinfo32.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
In the System Information utility, click on Software
Environment in the left hand column.
Click on Startup Programs.
Go to the toolbar at the top of window and select File ->
Export.
Name the file Startup and save it someplace handy like your
Desktop or My Documents folder.
Open the file and copy the contents.
Paste it into a response to this post and we'll see if we can
get this sorted out.
