old software removal

i just had to re-install windows xp but still have programs on it that i dont
need, i have tired to remove them via uninstall but they dont appear how do
you remove tthese including registrys etc.

You've flushed any info that Windows had for them when you
"reinstalled". At this point you just delete the sub-folders, OR
reinstall and then uninstall the program to have the uninstaller remove
lingering bits and pieces.

Sometimes you get lucky and the application will have its own
uninstaller and it will have retained enough information to remove the
application and itself. One old standard uninstaller is "unwise.exe"
which would appear in the application's directory under "program files".
Probably worth a look anyway. Otherwise the only way out is to
re-install the application so that you can un-install it minutes later.
A major PITA.

Oh yes. There some applications that exist to uninstall other
applications. Symantec had one such in their Systemworks and it actually
sometimes did what it was advertised to do.
