Power Options missing some options
Posted by Bob Uva on November 6th, 2005

After re-installing Windows XP (with SP2), when I go to the Power Options
Properties from the Control Panel, on the Advanced tab, the dropdown list
for "When I close the lid of my portable computer:" only shows one choice:
"Do nothing". It used to have other selections such as, I think, Hibernate.
How do I get those other selections back?

Thanks,
Bob

After a fresh install from media other than the OEM restore disk I will need
to load Toshiba power management drivers for my power options which would
think you need to do too. Plus there are several other Toshiba laptop
specific drivers.

I ran the registry script that you pointed me to but it didn't have any
effect on the 'close the lid' options.

Bob
Sorry that didn't work.
Make sure that Hibernate is enabled. In the Power Options dialog, click the
Hibernate tab and check it there.
Hope that will help. Please post back and let us know

You know what, I don't have a Hibernate tab anymore! Somehow it just got
erased! There must be some registry setting to turn it on or something ???

Bob
Sorry my suggestions haven't worked.
I have been researching this and it is not a very common problem.
I don't know why this would have anything to do with your problem but it seems
this is usually Graphics driver related. See the troubleshooter here:

http://www.rickrogers.org/standby.htm

Well give it a try and post back and let me know.

Try this hotfix,
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;893056 , it deals
with the problem of the disappearing hibernate option.
