Problem connecting to DCOM service from workgroup PC - XP w/SP2

I have a DCOM service which runs on 1 box, and sends notifications to other
(subscribed) clients within a workgroup.

So far I've:

- opened PORT 135 as an exception
- allowed the Anonymous user remote access via DCOMcnfg
- tried running the service as an administrator
- turned the firewall off completely

The clients which attach to the running service always return an error
0x80074005.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
