- Problem with system restore
- Posted by nosugar on November 15th, 2005
I'm trying to restore my system with the 9 cds from Hewlett Packard. After
installing all, I keep getting messages that say "problen finding dll files
(lots of them and yes, it's spelled problen". Than the screen goes black and
the message 'NTLDR is missing"
I have no idea what's going on? Anyone, please help!

Nine CDs ? - Are these commercially created disks or one where
the user must burn them from the computer's Recovery partition ?
Which ever, the restoration obviously didn't complete 100% or it
is defective. I would contact HP and describe your problem with
them. Perhaps they can send you a replacement recovery set for
your specific model HP. Recovery process varies from vendor to
vendor and even within different models - so it's impossible to give
you exact instructions.

These are the factory recovery disks. They were perfectly fine in February
when I restored the system. Contacting HP at this time could cost me a
fortune since I'm not under warranty anymore.

Examine the CDs and make sure they are absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean them.

OK, thanks for the clarification. Then you may just need to redo the
recovery process again. I would probably inspect the disks to make
sure there aren't any noticeable smudges or scratches present. I guess
9 CDs isn't too many for a full system image set.

It would be interesting to know whether nosugar has opted for FAT32 or
NTFS
You receive an "NTLDR is missing" error message when you start your
computer
