I would say that the system is asking for a favour of a spring clean.
How long have you been using the system for? If it is more than a year
then considering the sort of work you do such as copying films etc. it
is indicative that it is a ripe time to start a clean install to clear
all the clutter that has built up including backups of MS patches!

Presumably, the problem is only when you are copying anything to CD/DVD
drive.

Recently I've had several problems with saving or burning to CD or DVD.
When i try to copy my pictures to disc I keep getting a "Windows is
having a problem copying pictures" message. No error message, no
explanation or solution. When I try to burn my home movies to disc,
I'll get half way done and receive a NOT ENOUGH SPACE IN MEMORY, when
there clearly is plenty. And finally when i try to remove a certain
program from my harddrive it won't remove but try to install instead,
even though there is no disc to download from. Can anyone help cause
this crap is driving me nuts. Any suggestion would be appreciated and
solution would be a blessing.

In my opinion, reinstalling Windows except as a last resort to correct a
significant issue is not a generally accepted form of Windows maintenance.
Instead, maintaining a functioning firewall, use of virus detection software
with current virus definitions, keeping current with Windows updates,
performing periodic disk cleanup, defragment, check disk, spyware scans with
current definitions, etc. are the appropriate steps to maintaining a properly
running machine.

So what exactly does that mean...cleaning. I've used this system for a
year with out problems. I defrag twice a month, scan for viruses once a
week, and do a spyware scans everyday at least twice. All of this has
started recently and how odd is it for windows to just tell you it has
a problem with no option for an explaination or even some sort of error
code. I would love to clean it out but I don't know what that means or
where to begin in doing it. If that means to re-install windows, I
can't do that without loosing all of my pictures because i can't save
them to disc. Is there anyway to repair the problem before
re-installing?

First, check to make sure your optical drives are not using PIO mode.
Windows has a very irritating habit of dropping down to PIO mode after
errors connected with the drive and not telling you. Here's a link to
information by MVP Hans-Georg Michna which explains the whole PIO/DMA
thing and how to fix it.

And finally, if none of that is applicable and/or useful, then swap out
the drive for a known-working one. Optical drives don't last forever
and yours may just be dying. There could be other hardware issues such
as the power supply getting old, too but I'd start with t-shooting the
drive since that's where the immediate symptoms are.
