- Program does not open
- Posted by Rob graham on October 4th, 2005
I'm asking this here because it seems to me like an XP problem rather than a
prog. in question. When I double click a specific prog's icon that prog.
appears to
try to open but then it doesn't. I.e. the cursor becomes an hour glass for
some seconds then reverts to a pointer. Also, normally it should be in the
systray but sometimes isn't. If it's in the systray, then a click in the
systray will open it. Why won't it open from the desktop icon or from
Start/Programs/ if it isn't in the systray?

Dunno, if the program requires something "special" that's unavailable,
then it doesn't work. Or you have some other software or malware
interfering? If XP won't open anything then you can point at XP, but if
your specific program is the having the problem well you will have to
determine what the programs problem is with XP. You could puzzle it out
on your own or tell the folks what program you are having trouble with.

The program is Second Copy. It normally sits in the systray and I open it
from there. Right now it won't go into the systray. But I have an icon on
the desktop, but this won't open it, although it seems as tho' it's going to
to start with. Then it goes dead. All other progs open OK from their icons.

Also look in the event viewer for error messages implicating Second Copy
(r-click My Computer and select Manage)
look in Task manager for processes that starting when you start "Second
Copy"
And last have you tried reinstalling it?
