You should re-install Vista, assuming that all of your preferred software
and hardware plays ball with it..

If the computer can run Vista cleanly, and you have the software you need
that is compatible, I'd recommend Vista. It offers a much nicer user
experience IMO than XP.

It has been assumed that you already had Vista installed and don't know
whether to reinstall or go back to XP SP2?
Which is it?

"Nicer" at the expense of performance and compatibility.

I do not want a "user experience" in the awful jargon of our time.

I just want a computer that starts fast and clean, supports my
apps and devices, and runs fast and predictably.

My brief confrontation with Vista tells me that ain't it.

Stay with XP.

Compatibility is not a Vista issue. Compatibility is an issue for *ware that

Performance is likewise irrelevant. If the machine is not fast enough for
you, buy a faster machine. Raw speed is important only to gamers; for the
rest of us, throughput is the crucial characteristic.

Vista has done everything I have asked it to do, with no problems period.

It's up to the vendor's software developers to make their software compliant
with Vista, just like that had to do with Windows XP after XP was released.
