I'm not sure that anyone but me cares, but I thought I'd mention the
issue was resolved.
I added a Seagate Hard drive and at the same time installed a backup
utility "Bounce Back express" that came with the hard drive.
When I uninstalled the backup utility the hard drive noise went away.
