RE: Losing window focus
Posted by Shoe Shine Boy on October 6th, 2005

It's been 7 weeks with no reply. Either nobody knows the answer, or nobody
understands the problem. I don't have the answer, but I am experiencing the
problem. I only notice the problem when I am offline. Every minute or two I
hear a click, like I've just made a choice in the browser. If the computer is
offline, it will wake up and sit there till the screensaver goes back on, put
one or two pictures up, then wake back up and do it again. If I'm online, I
can still hear it click, but it doesn't wake up. Also if I'm online, it
doesn't take focus away from the window I'm working on, but if I'm offline,
it will. I've been looking at security logs and noticed that network services
get their privileges changed in short intervals, and my username has errors
logging into the domain, even though I'm not in a domain. I don't know if
that is relevant, but anyway... I hope somebody that knows something will
reply to this, even if it's just to say they don't know what I'm talking
about or how to fix it. Does any of this sound familiar to you, Paul?

TIA

You don't mention having installed a firewall, scanned for malware or
visited any online virus scanner. Rather than believing the PC is
haunted I suspect your PC is infected with something.

I had Zone Alarm installed, I've run Ad Aware SE, and I've used Trend Micro's
Housecall. My computer seems to be clean. I also thought it was infected, but
everything I try tells me it's clean. I did notice that if I stop the process
called ypager.exe, the focus stops being stolen. I saw in a different thread
that TweakUI may be able to stop this too. Thanks for the reply.
