How do we get folders into "Other Places"? Maybe that will be good
enough.

When you open a folder, the left side has "File and Folder Tasks", and
"Other Places".

OH, the common tasks stuff. I don't use that fluff. I turn OFF all the
"eye candy" and cutesy stuff and run Classic views. Shortcut's to
folders go in the Quick Launch bar. You may be able to get it into the
"OP section" with a registry hack. But I suspect you shouldn't do that
on the work PC.
