remove hardware wont remove

Win xp home with SP2 dell inspiron notebook

I have a smart disk firelite usb hard drive and since I got SP2 the remove
hardware winzard say the device cannot be stopped right now. My usb floppy
drive does the same thing. Ive seen the posts here about it

does MS have a solution?

That often means that the system is waiting to write something to the drive.

I've gotten that message too on XP with SP2, but if I wait a bit and try
again the drive gets released.

One option is to turn off write caching. Right click My Computer |
Properties | Hardware | Device Manager. Expand the Disk drives
category. Double click the hard drive in question. On the Policies tab
put a tic mark in Optimize for quick removal.

I forgot to add that I already tried the write cache trick. no results.
