- restore to earlier time, and now error messages "Could not find program code"

I ran restore to return my system to a time before I had
installed some software. And, now when I reboot, I get
an error message:
"Could not find program code"
I click "OK", and the system appears to run OK.
How do I go about finding out what the problem is?
This is the first I have seen this error.
I am running windows XP SP2, with all current patches.
Is it possible that the restore has some bug?

I see that there are some entries in "startup" that were put there by
the the software that I had installed. Isn't restore supposed to put
the system back to the state before that software install?
It makes me a little nervous to accept that restore works as described.
Or maybe the (auto) restore snapshot is taken after the installation
has had a change to write to "startup"?

Hi Bill,
No bug, System Restore was not designed to uninstall applications. What
happens is only the files and registry setting that System Restore
monitors are removed, leaving the rest. This can often cause the
uninstall and install function of that application to fail. I would
suggest undoing the restore, uninstall the application in question then
restoring back to a date before the application was originally
installed.
