Restoring files from Desktop
Posted by Lisa on October 11th, 2005

When I had Windows 98se I had a folder on my desktop with a year's worth
of documents inside it. After I installed Windows XP and restored the
icons back to my desktop, the folder was gone. This folder is very
important to me.

I have tried using restore programs like Undelete, Uneaser and
RecoverMyFiles, with no luck. I am sure the files are still on my "C"
drive. Is there any way I can get the folder back on my desktop? Please
help.

You mean that the shortcut to the folder is gone, I suppose.

Find the folder and create a new shortcut to it.
If you cannot find the folder, then you are in for a lot of work.
I know there are lots of programs which can recover deleted files (really
deleted as opposed to being in the recycle bin), but I have no knowledge of
any of them.
In the meantime, do not create any new files on the disk.

There was no shortcut to the folder on the desktop. I "thought" that
since I was upgrading the operating system everything else not
connected to the operating system would remain intact. I am hoping that
I can restore it using DOS commands....but I don't know.
