The method will depend on your system manufacturer and how they included
Windows XP with your system (as well as the other applications) - but
essentially you can delete all the partitions and reinstall the operating
system and all applications - yes.

That would depend upon the configuration of your system, and which CDs were shipped with
it. If your system was shipped with System Restoration CDs, which are designed to format
and reinstall everything that was on the hard drive as delivered, that would probably be
easiest for someone with little tech expertise. But, if your system was shipped with an
OEM Windows XP CD, and separate CDs for drivers, and bundled software, you would have to
format your hard drive, reinstall Windows XP, install the drivers, and install the bundled
software. That is very time consuming, and might better be left to someone who has some
tech expertise (especially when installing the drivers). Then there are also low end
systems which do not include any CDs, and have a key sequence for restoring from a hidden
partition. There are systems which include a utility for making your own OEM Windows XP
CD, in case you have to reinstall. And the variations go on... FYI the System Restore
"dealie" was never meant to restore your entire system. It will restore your registry and
some other Windows XP OS things to how they were on a specific date. A utility like
Norton GoBack (this is not a recommendation for any Norton product) is designed to roll
YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM back to how it was at a specific date and time.

Reinstalling Windows XP should only be what you do if all else fails to
correct a serious problem. The problem may appear serious to you but
perhaps it can be easily fixed if you describe the main problem and
giving details of what you are doing when they arise and what error
messages are displayed. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people
reading and answering these messages who are willing to help.

Hope this helps.

As many people have posted you may need to reinstall Windows. How this is
done varies depending on how the manufacturer set up your pc. What none of
them have mentioned is that you will lose all your data and may lose your
programs as well. Again this depends on how the manufacturer set up the pc.
Make sure you have any important data backed up before you start. Photos,
documents, mp3s etc.will all be lost if not backed up.

As was also mentioned your problems may not require this drastic a measure.
What problems are you experiencing?

Kerry
