- running Norton anti-virus 2006 as non-admin?
- Posted by Les Caudle on January 25th, 2006
Aaron - I had been using an enterprise version of Panda AdminSecure (which will
run as a non-admin) - and am attempting to switch to Norton Anti-virus 2006
(workstation edition for XP Pro)..
I installed it using an Administrator account - but my normally logged-in user
is a non-admin.
I can get it to download the virus defs by using run-as Administrator, but
Norton does not show that it is actually using the defs (it displays the older
version on their status screen).
How can I get this to run properly?
It is very frustrating to have to deal with such sloppy security software - that
wants to force me to run insecurely as an Administrator.

You'd probably have more fun using sandpaper to masterbate with.

Kurt - Aaron is a MS employee that runs a non-admin blog:

I forgot to take out his name when I posted the question here.
Are you saying you have direct experience with attempting this - and Symantec is
so brain dead that you must run in-securely as an Administrator to run their
anti-virus software?
Thanks, Les Caudle
