runtime error
Posted by Jason on March 4th, 2006

I keep getting a message when I try to open applications and folders that
says Explorer has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. The
problem only seems to happen when both user accounts are logged in at once,
and only happens with one account. Any help is appreciated.

Runtime errors usually deal with memory, ram or virtual,or lack of...
2 users, requires more memory,1 account is larger than the other requiring
more memory...

Hi Jason

Runtime errors are frequently caused by crapware that users unknowingly
install on their systems as part of freeware/shareware programs downloaded
from the internet. I would suspect that one of the user accounts has been
used to do this. These programs can help clear up the damage, and should be
run from both logons:

AdawareII www.lavasoft.de
Spybot www.safer-networking.org

From MVP Richard Harper on cleaning up malware infested systems:

This one can help you avoid these programs from being installed in the first
place:

No, they're not. Runtime errors are caused by misbehaving, corrupted, or
altered files.

I'm having the same problem, tried all of the suggestions in your (and
Richard's) notes, but still have the same problem. Computer is clean,
firewalled, but can't access some applications with 2 users logged in -
iexplorer, control panel, explorer Any further suggestions?
