Why does this appear on the bottom side of my taskbar?

Can I ge rid of it?

You probably have a card reader in your PC that uses USB ports.

Unless you uninstall the device, you can't get rid of it but you can hide it.
BTW if you select the icon to safely remove the device and it is a card
reader, you won't be able to use it until you reboot or have the computer
search for new hardware.

The reason is one of the following:

1) A USB drive
2) Firewire drive
3) SATA / eSATA drive

These drive can be disconnected while the PC is still running Windows. As a
precaution, you need to tel Windows to complete any / all writes to the drive
and signal it for disconnection.

NOTE: SATA drives are internal drive but they have the possibility of being
disconnected while Windows ix running.
