search assistant window is blank
Posted by ahardb0dy on December 19th, 2005

when I click on search either thru the start button or thru internet explorer
all I see is the wizard on the bottom of the window, there are no fields to
type in or anything. I searched all over and tried doing all the fixes and
still nothing works. The only thing that worked was the restore old search
fix, but it only worked when going to search thru the start button, not when
I tried using search thru IE. I've run the panda online virus scan, the
MCafee virus scan that is included with my aol, spybot, lavasoft adaware, and
no viruses were found. I don't know what else to try and don't want to
re-install windows if I don't have too. I'm using windows XP home edition,
Anyone help ??

>> tried doing all the fixes and still nothing works

Please list them. In the meantime, try this:

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

Reinstalling the Search companion

1. Login as administrator
2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK.
3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install.

This reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses. When you're prompted
for the system files, insert your Windows XP CD, or
point to Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder (if you've applied SP1 or SP2
separately) which-ever has the updated system files.

that worked, I did all of that before except the second part you said to type
into "run" was different than what I used earlier. Thanks
