Hi ,
I was just wondering about leaving a check mark on my Outlook Express
account property "Advance" tab under "Leave a copy of messages on server".
What is its functionality?
Can some one please shine some light on this issue?
TIA,
Napoleon

Normally emails are downloaded onto your computer and then deleted from the
server computer at your ISP. If you check this box the message won't be
deleted from the server after it's been downloaded. This can be useful if
you go abroad on business.... your wife at home can check email on your PC
but because a copy of the message is left on the server you can also see
them from abroad - if visit an Internet cafe for example.
Most ISP have a "webmail" interface that allows you to view messages that
are still on the server using a web browser. It allows you to check email
while abroad without having to set up OE with all your account details - you
just browse your ISP's web site and enter an account name and password.
There is only one problem..... Your ISP only allocates a certain amount of
temporary storage on the server for your email messages. If you leave
messages on the server it's just possible that you might run out of space -
in which case new messages might be sent back to the sender marked "no room
on server" or similar. It's best to leave it off (eg not left on server)
unless you are going to need this feature.

i.e. Outlook won't delete the mails once downloaded. useful for if
you use more than 1 computer to read the emails.

Adding to the other replies:
Outlook Express has more options, like "Remove from server after [ ]
days" and "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'" You
might find one or both useful.
