Slipstreamed CD question
Posted by Vic on December 21st, 2007

Having never made a slipstream CD I wonder:
If XP is say, 300mb on its CD and SP2 is 300mb (just using example
sizes), would the slipstreamed CD be 600MB? More? Less?

I ask because it would be nice to get the smallest 'footprint' (sized
package) for install but have as many updates as possible being
installed too.

TIA
Vic

About 650MB on my Slipstreamed CD.
It's the install that counts not the amount of space used on the CD.

You might as well use nLite and integrate as many updates and hotfixes on
the slipstream as possible. See here http://www.nliteos.com/index.html

Read the forum info on how to use nLite with your copy of XP
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89 and get the current update
package from here http://xable.net/xp-sp2-update-pack-download.php

guide is here http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part1.html
http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part2.html
http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part3.html

If you only integrate SP2 into XP you still have nearly 100 hotfixes to
download and install via the Windows Update Site.

Using autostreamer and Nero, my slipstreamed XP w/SP2 CD is 576MB.

My OEM generic XP W/sp1 installation CD is 522MB.
The SP2 CD that I received from MS is 476MB. No, the CDs are not additive
arithmetically when slipstreaming.

As it appears now, a slipstreamed SP3 to XP may require a DVD. We'll see.

Hmmm, interesting that your slipstreamed SP2 CD was 576MB vs MS size of
476MB (which is SMALLER than XP with SP1 !!!

Did they leave something out?

SP3 can be slipstreamed to the original XP CD . It will negate the need
to use any other SP previously released.

Dunno, just relaying size of the data per windows explorer for each CD.
I'll let you venture why.

Not yet. Supposedly, it will come out the first quarter of 08. The Beta
version is available for download.
