- Splash Screen Hangs
- Posted by rich on December 29th, 2007
Hello,
My splash screen at boot-up consistently hangs for 9 minutes. It then goes
through BIOS, and then the screen goes dark, and then if I leave it alone
for about 20 minutes, it goes to the desktop and the computer ap[ears to rum
smoothly. I tried safe mode and all the other options with F8 but could not
activate any of them. I'm using XP Pro.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Undo the system changes (eg. installation) that you've performed prior to
the first encounter of this problem. If there were no such changes, scan
your system for malware ASAP.

I will try system restore. I scanned and there is no spy- or malware on my
computer. Thank you.

You may certainly try the System Restore tool. Concerning the possible
malware infestation, however, that tool is useless.
I really don't know where this sophism comes from. Note that malware
scanners give you the clue when there is a positive result. If there
are no hits, this doesn't mean anything!
'Welcome.

the flash screen loads at boot, it is not a part of windows.
This is a hardware issue.
The first place I would look is the RAM, it is one of the first things to
load at boot and a bad stick would severely slow down the process as the
system did its RAM test.
You can check your ram with a program called memtest86
