Posted by pentium on May 27th, 2008

i think my computer is infected. i'm using google.com as my homepage but
everytime i click on intrernet explorer, it always goes to a certain website
which is forcing me to use it, well i tried it but it didn't work. spyware is
still there. i've tried using another spyware remover and it said it
successfully removed it. but it's still there. so i guess my question is,
what's the best website to get rid of spyware??

I have found using Adaware:
http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

and Spybot Search and Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

very effective. They are both free. I suggest you use both because they
each find odd things that the other misses.

You have a BHO. Try right clicking on the IE icon on your desktop and go
to Internet Options and see what add ons are there. Try removing
anything weird. If that fails, run Spybot and Adware. As far as system
restore is concerned, I would disable it in case the nasty is hiding in
there.

If the above removes it, install Spywareguard so it won't happen again.

After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in Safe
Mode.
How do you boot to Safe Mode?
By pressing/tabbing F8 (or F5 on some keyboards) during re-boot.
Alternatively:
click onto Start==>Run, type "msconfig" (without quotation marks), click
OK. Then click onto BOOT.INI tab and 'check' /SAFEBOOT then OK and click
Restart. To go back to Normal Mode, you must access the System
Configuration utility again and click the General tab then click/check the
radio button 'Normal Startup'- load all device drivers and services'.

The malware is foiling your attempts to clean your machine.

It won't let you go to (some) sites it knows would be its death.
