Start up error
Posted by Robert on January 1st, 2008

Ahh, the annoyances of Windows. On starting XP home, I get an error message
that gives no hint of what to do. I have reloaded Logitech without success.

Runner file name
(LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe) lacks a '-' (the app id separator)

So how do I fix it? I'm about to delete the Logitech desktop entirely if
this keeps happening!! If I click OK, it goes away until the next time I
startup.

You write "Ahh, the annoyances of Windows." It now depends:
if you think that this is an annoyance of Windows then you should
delete Windows and retain LogitechMessenger. If you think that
this is an annoyance of LogitechMessenger then you should delete
LogitechMessenger and retain Windows.

Seriously: Removing LogitechMessenger and perhaps reinstalling
it seems your best course of action. You should also check the
FAQs of LogitechMessenger, and perhaps google for Logitech
plus your specific error message. It is unlikely that it has anything
to do with Windows itself.

I realize that, but why does windows even bother to alert me, if there is no
suggestion what step to take. These type of things really keep tech support
in business.

I fixed the problem by just going to msconfig and not allowing any of the
logitech functions to load at startup. This works, so I may just delete the
logitech setpoint all together. It seems to cause other problems also (brings
up exploits). I've used logitech products for years without problems, but
this 3200 laser keyboard and mouse is not up to par, and also eats batteries.

Just chatting.

One day Windows will come equiped with a bottom-wiping program for people
like you.

If a red light comes on the dashboard of your car do you know how to fix it?

Why do you think any end user should be able to fix any computer related
problem, not created by MS?

If the LogitechMessenger generates an error message then
there is nothing that Windows can do about it. It's the same
with your Chevy: If the Sony radio you added later on plays
up then there is no point in complaining to the Chevrolet
people. Talk to to the Sony people instead!
