- Strange icon in the system tray
- Posted by Fuzzy Logic on January 27th, 2006
Occaisionally I get a yellow triangle icon with an exclamation mark showing
up in my system tray. Clicking on the icon causes it to go away. Any ideas
where this is coming from and what it's supposed to signify?
TIA...Bob

Thanks but I unless an update I don't know about was released
yesterday/today I am all up to date. I generally have updates installed
before most people even know about them!
Someone else mentions it here:

I suspect some type of network warning/error but can't find any more
information about it.

That's usually the result of a USB peripheral being unplugged prior
to being stopped.

A Warning or notification but it could be about many things.
Try hovering your mouse pointer over it- no clicking- does it show anything?
Try a right click .....see what options get offered. Watch when it happens,
it may be after an update- virus, windows, if your updates are auto watch
what happens or check update times/dates applied..... In short, be
observant and look for clues.

Thanks but not it. I have no local printers and I'm on a corporate network.
I maybe print something once ever 2 weeks.

Next time it happens (it's very rare) I need to remember not to click on it
and see if I can get some more info out of it. I was hoping someone had seen
this before and had some idea what it might be. Thanks.

virtual memory low?

I've seen this before, if it is indeed a yellow triangle with a red
exclamation point inside of it. The Event Viewer should have it logged as an
error detected on the hard drive. The advice is to run Check Disk to correct
the error.

I checked the System Event Viewer and I think this may be it:
Application Popup: Windows - Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low
EventID 26
