Hi All,

My machine has suddenly decided to cease to function on me, basically it
powers up into windows XP and i can open up any of the profiles but am unable
to do anything after e.g. if i attempt to open any application nothing will
open and the machine will literally freeze.

I i attempt to press cntl alt del nothing comes up so i am unable to tell
what applications are running at all.

Please could someone help....

Try booting your computer into safe mode. I believe you press F8 when
windows starts, and select safe mode from the menu. This should allow you
to get into the OS, but it will mess with your icons on the desktop, since
it only supports
640 x 480 display mode. Perhaps you can run your virus scanner after
booting into safe mode.

1.Have you Insatalled Wix XP service Packs?
2.If yes, whether this problem started after installing service packs? If
yes, then restart your computer in Safe Mode and uninstall service pack using
follwing command
Start->Run->c:\windows\$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst\spun inst.exe
Click Ok
When service pack removal starts , Click Next.

Thank you both Karan and especially Larry. I managed to repair the problem
by booting into safemode and then restoring to a previous checkpoint.

I will now run the anti virus s/w and spyware programs to make sure there
are no unwanted apps on my machine.
